What is SEO?

Search engine optimization (SEO) is the process of increasing the visibility of a website in search engines such as Google, Yahoo and Bing. Google is the most popular search engines with more than 90% users in Australia use Google for their daily searches.

In general, the earlier (or higher ranked on the search results page), and more frequently a site appears in the search results list, the more visitors it will receive from the search engine’s users.

A website ranking higher in Google will of naturally receive more clicks then those sites ranking on page 2 or other pages in Google. More visibility in Google means more clicks, more traffic to website, more conversions, more sale and hence more business.

SEO may target different kinds of search, including image search, local search, video search, academic search, news search and industry-specific vertical search engines.

So the whole process of optimising a website to rank higher in search engines is bsically called as SEO- search engine optimisation.

Take example of Google – it cosniders mroe than 200 factors to decide where a website should rank in search result pages (SERPs).

Optimizing a website may involve editing its content, HTML and associated coding to both increase its relevance to specific keywords and to remove barriers to the indexing activities of search engines. Promoting a site to increase the number of backlinks, or inbound links, is another SEO tactic.

As of May 2015, mobile search has finally surpassed desktop search hence mobile friendliness of a website is also a ranking factor now.
